Guys,

Why dont you purchase GMAT club challenges. THey do have the toughest questions. I think if you can ace there then scoring 45+ should not be a problem. Infact most of the 48+ scorers recommend these.

I agree. One major factor in my improvement from a quant score of 40 to a score of 50 was the GMAT club challenges. The other main factor was feeling relaxed and confident during the second test. I was pretty nervous during my first one.

So I guess we are in agreement that studying only from the OG is not the best way to get a great quant score? I just dont get why the questions in the OG are so different from the ones on the test. Actually I can pretty much nail the first 100-150 questions on the OG but the questions on the OG diagnostic test are much harder?

So with these challenges, who writes the questions, and will I get practice in all aspects of the gmat such as percentages, probability, geometry and so on? Thanks!

The OG is a collection of questions from tests that have been collected over 15 years. If you look at the 7th ed, the 8th ed, and the 9th ed, you will find about half the current problems. They added questions in the 10th ed, and then more in this version. The new ones are tougher than the others and more representative, but on the whole, the questions do not reflect the entire test.

But, on the whole, they do represent good marketing on the part of the GMAT folks.

This stinks. Here I was lead to believe that all I need to do is study the OG and I'll be fine. So I guess thats not the case at all. That is very misleading on the part of GMAC

But you said you didn't do so well on the 200+ questions.

I think to really do well, you need to focus on the last 50 or so problems. Those are basically the tough questions you are going to face on the test. The first 100 are basically very simple and almost a joke. I don't even know why they have them, maybe to reflect all the different difficulty levels?? But I don't think you would see many if any of these questions unless you are doing terrible on the math section.

To be able to score 40+ on math, you need to be able to answer all the questions 200+ AND more importantly understand the concepts you are being tested. For example, just one thing I have noticed, on the tough geometry questions, you sometimes have to manipulate the diagrams they give you. If they have a circle inside a square, you usually have to picture/draw out triangles to get radius or diameter or side of the square(knowing special right triangles helps)....and so on. So they basically test your knowledge of circles/squares/triangles all in one question.
