Difficulty of questions

Question

Suppose I start with Medium-Hard level question and answer all correctly. So my subsequent questions would be of higher difficulty level. If I answer all of them correct does that mean i will not encounter easy level questions?

vishalgaurav4444 - that is how the test should behave. In fact, even if you get 80% of the MH questions correct, the test should serve you more challenging questions in the next set. Now, if you make mistakes, the test may still serve easy questions to you.

egmat  I am trying to figure out if I should allocate more time to the later questions. As per this since my average difficulty level will keep on increasing, I should allocate more time to the later questions.

Depends. May sound strange but a significant part of the Verbal tutoring I do focuses on solving approach, making the way you tackle questions more efficient. Probably fair to say you don't want to "over-rush" early questions and potentially make careless errors because of harder questions you may get later on.

This is concerning in the least and a recipe for a failure or most likely will turn into a joke. What you are saying is that since you want to be boxing champion, you will have to fight someone like Mike Tyson, and since they are tough, you don't want easy opponents and you want to start fighting with the strongest ones since Mike Tyson is strong. Right? How do you think that is going to end? I think that will end quite quickly

So, I think you are worrying about things you do not need to worry about. That fact is that easier questions should "organically" take you less time to answer than harder questions. So, when taking the GMAT, you should focus on the question in front of you and nothing else. Also, have you taken any practice exams yet, so you can see more of the functionality of the actual GMAT?

The only thing I would add to what has already been said is that you should not be over-cautious to such an extent that you necessarily just have to utilise your 2 minutes (for example by confirming, and again reconfirming your answer) even on the questions that you are pretty confident about. High scorers generally have ample extra time left for harder question that they would most likely encounter later on during the test - but not by rushing through the easier questions early on and becoming prone to errors, nor by sticking to the 2 minute mark for each and every question that they encounter.

Hi vishalgaurav4444.

Even if you get all the questions you see correct, you'll see a mix of hard and medium-hard questions as you continue. So, your move is to answer each question you see as fast as you reasonably can, and if one question takes you more than two minutes to answer, you can expect that you'll likely answer a later question faster and catch up on time.

I see that you are focusing more on practicing questions, than on the process, which is not the right way to prepare for GMAT. For scoring 700 and above, you need to make sure you don’t get the easy & medium questions wrong as GMAT test is adaptive in nature. Before you start practicing questions, you should be conceptually clear and learn the right methodology. GMAT is a test of application of concepts. So, instead of directly practicing questions, make sure that you learn the right process to solve questions. Once you do that, you don't have to worry about the difficulty level of the question.
