Legolas1221:
Congrats on your acceptance! Tackling each of your questions:
Q: Considering that I surely want to work in Tech(PM role), would a 15-25 ranked college(tepper, anderson, kelley, chapel hill etc) make any difference in my opportunities as opposed to Simon?
A: Yes, I believe if someone you can crack into one of these top schools it would make a big difference in opportunities. As for how much? That's up to you. There is also a considerable difference between Top 15-25 and the Top 10-15 and the Top 10. Take into account those deltas. As you know, Tech PM roles are also very competitive so it's not like jumping up will guarantee you anything.
Q: Is it worth deferring a year?
A: Is this even an option? I am not aware if deferrals are being granted as easily as they were last year. You might also be forfeiting your scholarship if you defer. I would be very, very clear about your options and what you'd be losing if you deferred for a year.
Q: Can I expect scholarships from these schools?
A: I would not count on it. You usually need a high GMAT score to get scholarships at the Top 15. It also doesn't hurt to come from an underrepresented cohort. Based on your profile, I would first worry about getting into one of these schools. You are coming from an extremely competitive demographic, and so you have to take that into account when deciding to give up a bird in the hand for two in the bush. Odds are it's going to be another competitive year, even if not as cutthroat as it was last year.
If I had to draw a line in the sand, I would say stay put, but you can easily make an argument for trying to "move up." Please reach out to us if you do end up applying in the fall, are interested in admissions consulting services and would like a free consultation.
