I'm well into my first round applications, only really have my essays left to write. I am DISCOURAGED! Maybe I read too many HBS sample essays (when I'm applying to schools ranked between 15 and 35), but I'm getting frustrated trying to put together impressive essays. I don't want to recite my resume, I'm really reaching for something more creative, plus my work experience is somewhat limited. Applying for competitive MBA programs has been an experience...

Instead of impressive essays, just try and write insightful essays. Not that I'm an expert but I think some of the best writing is on subjects that don't seem impressive at all but you learned/did/observed something impressive in spite of it.

I try to think: Big lessons from small things.

“When I saw that ant carry that leaf, I knew that…..”

That’s terrible but something along those lines…
