Discplinary Probation During Undergrad

Question

Hello, long time listener, first time caller here.

In the 1st semester of my sophomore year during undergrad I received probation at my school due to having alcohol in my dorm room. I recently have come across a bschool that asks if I was subject of any type of probation, suspension, or expulsion.

anyone here happen to have experience with this? if so, did you report it? if so, what was the school's response?

if this incident is not on my transcript but its records are still held in the student life office, should I report it?

any help, feedback, or advice is greatly appreciated!

I would like to say talk to lots of admission consultants before you submit your application. I understand your concern but admission consultants may help you add "silver lining" to your case. All the best.

if they ask a question this direct and clearly posed then I would answer truthfully. There are some instances where you could have had some wiggle room around such a question but this does not seem like one of them. You should also if given some characters to explain talk about the lessons learned from this infraction and any changes you made as a result. Ultimately this is a minor offense and if the rest of your application is strong, this will not keep you out of contention for an admit.

Hi bschoolhopeful1313 , Thanks for your query. As already mentioned above, if the school asks you state the same in a direct manner, you must definitely mention the same. A number of schools provide the option of writing an optional essay and such issues may be discussed there (unless, of course, the application itself provides you a space to provide an explanation for the incident). Be sure to approach the episode in a manner that conveys that you have had your learning and have come a long way since then. Further, please also ensure putting in an extra effort to submit an application as powerful as possible. If you are able to do take care of the above-mentioned points, the incident you have mentioned should not have any adverse impact on your application as such
