Hello,
I've taken 4 practice exams from GMATPrep, I'm assuming these are the most accurate. First score, got a 660, didn't study, was a diagnostic test. Worked on time management and my weak areas and got 720, 720, 710. Well my target score was 700, so I scheduled the exam. I ended up with a 690 on the real thing. I'm comforted that I'm at least close, albeit disappointed that...well...I'm that close. I went ahead and sent the score, I'll get accepted no problem I'm just cheap and want that scholarship that a 700+ score would bring
Here's the weird part, on the practice exams, I was anywhere between 63-87 percentile in quant, and 75-96 percentile in verbal. I mean...with those stats I could score anywhere betweeen 650 - 750...right? I don't have a real weak spot on either section, I get the same # number properties wrong as I do geometry..etc, although I am an algebra beast. Just to complicate things further, there were times when time management on quant wasn't a problem, and other times when I had to guess on literally the last 7 questions due to lack of time. I can almost always complete the verbal section in time.
I don't know what's going on, why is there such a large discrepancy from exam to exam? The verbal/quant sections don't depend on each other at all do they? Is this just me or does this happen a lot? How do I become more consistent?
Hi
ksoadc7890I don think that you have a lot discrepancies at all.
Everything in range of + - 50 is quite natural.
Even on official GRE to GMAT conversion table/chart there is that caveat, that one GRE score is equivalent to one corresponding GMAT score + or - 50 in total score.
Your range was 690-720.
I dont count first pre-study mock
So to conclude your scores were in fact consistent.
Now, your personal feelings and fact that one time you run out of time in quant but next time you had enough time is another story.
Yes, verbal and quant are not mutually dependent in terms of difficulty.
As you know only previous question answered determines difficulty of next question.
Although you feel that you dont have weak areas, which I believe you
, it just could be that for certain questions/topics even though you know how to solve them it takes a little bit more time to answer than others.
So when you encounter them in a row, you lost some valuable time.
Also your concentration no matter what will not be the same on any giving day.
Or even time of the day.
Are there some difference between those 4 attempts (first one excluded) in scheduled test time of the day ?
Like morning vs. afternoon ?
That all can interfere with your final score.
Of course you can score 700+, you already did.
Really, there is not much difference between 690 or 700 in eyes of ad com, but I know that 700 makes you feel better
Good luck, with another attemp if you decide to retake, but moreover good luck with your applicaton !
