A while back it was suggested that IIM grads (who typically have little or no experience at all) get selected for more junior positions than people from top US / top Europe MBAs. I don't know whether it's true, but if so, you would be discriminated at the point of entry.

THats what Iw ant to confirm

Now consider my case (IIM) Project manager but in IT joins say I Join McKinsey/Bain consulting and another Indian IT with same profile as me (but from HBS) also gets an offer from the same company same location
will he have a higher designation and salary just becuase he is from HSB and me from IIM :(

As far as I know-the salary is independent of your institute. You should get the same pay as the dude from HBS.

Dont worry about it Venky-enjoy your admit and get ready for school!

If you plan to stay in India you are better off coming out of IIM for no other reason than the huge difference in debt from what you would have coming from some place like HBS.

I think getting hired by one of the big consulting firm within the US would tougher from an IIM or any non ultra elite school...but once you are in your abilities and accomplishments will mean more than the name of your MBA.
