",and" is used as a conjunction which connects two independent clauses. But in correct answer, first sentence has SV but second sentence lacks subject. Can you share if this structure in Option E is Ok or not?

I think A is correct. Evolving is modifying the previous clause.

I think E is the most appropriate because it provides two seperate facts.

1st fact being *they evolved independently*
2nd fact being *they share physical and behavioural traits*

For that reason alone, this option makes the most sense and still works without parallelism...

Correct me if I am wrong! ?

Distinct from anthropoid primates, lemurs share physical and behavioral traits with basal primates such as apes and monkeys, evolving independently on the island of Madagascar.

(A) Lemurs share physical and behavioral traits with basal primates such as apes and monkeys, evolving independently on the island of Madagascar

(B) Lemurs share physical and behavioral traits with basal primates such as apes and monkeys, who then evolved independently on the island of Madagascar such as apes and monkeys,

(C) Lemurs evolved independently on the island of Madagascar, who share physical and behavioral traits with basal primates such as apes and monkeys

(D) Lemurs share physical and behavioral traits with basal primates such as apes and monkeys, and therefore evolved independently on the island of Madagascar

(E) Lemurs evolved independently on the island of Madagascar, and share physical and behavioral traits with basal primates such as apes and monkeys

How is that possible that the correct answer is E?

Could somebody explain?

s
(A) Lemurs share physical and behavioral traits with basal primates such as apes and monkeys, evolving independently on the island of Madagascar
This gives the meaning as though the sharing habit evolved independently which is not the case therefore out

(B) Lemurs share physical and behavioral traits with basal primates such as apes and monkeys, who then evolved independently on the island of Madagascar such as apes and monkeys,
who might refer back to lemur or monkey which is not the intended meaning therefore out

(C) Lemurs evolved independently on the island of Madagascar, who share physical and behavioral traits with basal primates such as apes and monkeys
Similar reasomimg as C

(D) Lemurs share physical and behavioral traits with basal primates such as apes and monkeys, and therefore evolved independently on the island of Madagascar
and therefore is unnecessary and doesn't make any sense therefore out

(E) Lemurs evolved independently on the island of Madagascar, and share physical and behavioral traits with basal primates such as apes and monkey
The meaning is perfect therefore our answer

THerefore IMO E

as long as the meaning of the sentence supports the different tense, one can pair different working verbs,

The dog slept in the sun, fatigued by play, and dreaming of the cat that ran away.

pair similar parts of speech together.
