You, Mr. Brian, are god sent ! If there's a philanthropic GMAT god out there, this course comes straight out of his goodie bag !
For the past 25 years of my life, I have taken pride that I know English. I have consistently scored in the 99th percentile in almost all verbal examinations in India. Even on the GMAT, I love RCs and CRs.
However, lately, the pride had been taking a hit ! Even while texting a friend, I would look at my verb tenses again and again! Thanks to SC !!
I went through the tutorial yesterday night and I instantly knew where I was going wrong . I had made SC so much about grammar, that I actually forgot GMAT's mantra. When I look at this now, I realize how SC is at the heart of GMAT, its pure decision making, and has limited dependability on grammar !
And because of this belief correction, I am in absolute awe of SCs now. In contrast to my earlier post, where I mentioned how tiring SC is , it has become a favorite now! I can sit whole day and practice them again and again !
So how does this sound for strategy? Before reading the question, I hit the answer choices first. I make two lists :
Example: if the first word is common in 3 of them, I would create a 3-2 split for first word. In parallel, I create another split depending on last word. Now, I keep on eliminating answers from both of them. When I am left with two answer choices, I usually compare them for a new decision point and if unsuccessful, only then I try to figure out by the ear for an awkward construction.
PS: I don't really understand why other preparation institutes have made this a test of grammar, because it is not ! Now that I understand what SC is, I realize how wrong I was in interpreting it for grammar . I am enrolled with two major prep institutes in India, and these guys have to take the blame for the fault within my belief system.
From a point where I was considering postponing my test date, you have rekindled the fire to score 750+ in this attempt ! Thanks Brian, thanks Veritas Prep!
