Let us consider a two set venn diagram.
a = walk only,
c = both walk and bus.
b = bus ride only.
n = which doesn’t include walk and bus ride.
We need to find if (b+c) >= 40/100
Statement 1:
(1) 10 percent of the students enrolled at Sunshine Elementary School walk to school.
a+c = 10%
No information about b or n is given. Hence insufficient
Statement 2:
(2) The number of students enrolled at Sunshine Elementary School who ride the bus to school is three times the number of students who do not ride the bus.
(b+c) = 3*(a+n)
we know that a+b+c+n =100
a+n = 100 -(b+c)
(b+c)= 3*(100 -(b+c) )
4(b+c) = 300
(b+c) =75
Hence, (b+c) > 40/100 . Hence Sufficient
