Hi all- wondering what my odds are. Good numbers but don't know a lot of people who've gone to b-school from where I am:
@hghennik- fascinating stuff on the computer insights...
- 3.72 GPA from Johns Hopkins (writing & media)
- 770 GMAT
- Several years in broadcast news & film production, most recently at a small production company

I really want to get into business development at a major studio. I'm interested in the new generation of immersive tech and I want to be a part of working that into a studio's programming. I think this goal - while not "popular" could still work- but I agree that perhaps you broaden to major entertainment or media company- And I will say one way to research is to work backwards-
I know that one of my classmates at Kellogg is doing something similar to what you want- so I know that Kellogg pathway worked for him- so I suggest you research the profiles of some of the major business development folks at major studios- and perhaps other more broadly related companies- and see WHO has an MBA and from WHERE... and see if you see some clusters... I would think Kellogg,
CBS, Stern, UCLA, maybe Wharton would be places I'd expect to see the most traction.
And from someone who has been on the adcom side- I can tell you that adcom loves to have some variety in the career goals- so everyone does not have to be a strategy consultant! This could work in your favor here- the key is that adcom has to believe that you already bring some of the connections to make this happen as major studios are generally not recruiting at MBA programs. But if you can leverage your already existing network and convince adcom that you have a plan for this- and also bring in from conversations with others MBAs working in studios HOW THEIR MBA helped set them apart in this competitive field... then you will have good answers for the why MBA question... I love your profile- and if you are looking for a consultant- please reach out to us at Stratus at this link for a free consult: https://stratusadmissionscounseling.com ... b-visitor/

Aiming for all the top schools (HSW, Sloan, Kellogg, Booth, Columbia, Yale, Stern, UCLA, Darden)

welcome any input!

Yes, you have a decent shot. Your unusual background will actually work in your favor and your academic / GMAT scores are great. There was someone in my class who had a producer/director background. The Media & Entertainment industry is also relatively active in recruiting at top b-schools. It's good that you don't want to depart your industry entirely.
