That is not something you can associate with a top 5 program in the US. Couple that with a 690 in the GMAT and you have made things far worse for yourself. You are also not the first man to land on the moon and you certainly dont know Bill Clinton- rather you are one in a billion!!
One in a billion other Indians trying your best to get into the one school that you have always wanted to attend.

My story started 3 years ago when I knew I wanted to do an MBA for what I had in my mind regarding my career and professional goal in life. Took the GMAT got a 690 and decided to take it again. In a span of 2-3 months I got a 690 again. I did not want to give that exam again. I hired a service to help me with the essays and after months of retrospection and writing I submitted applications to the following schools :
Kellogg
Duke
Darden
Berkeley

I got dinged from all of them: Indian (who grew up in the middle east), low gpa, engineering, mediocre career progress,non stellar community work etc... I didnt make a good candidate. Many suggested that I target other more reachable schools but I couldn't get myself to do so.

Reeling in the disappointment of dings I got a call from a friend I had worked with a few years ago. That call resulted in an interview and after some months a job offer in Chicago. The offer was something I couldn't refuse and the work was exciting as well. Upon taking the job I got a call from Duke about their cross continent program. I looked into the program thought it was appealing as well.

3 months into my new job in a new city I took the brave step of saying no to duke and trying to get admitted to Kellogg or booth.
I was excelling professionally earning a promotion in the new firm almost instantly - within months of my start date. My record label started picking up- and I was able to referee kids soccer games as part of a fun and outreach. I spent a lot of time with Kellogg students, attended a class and an info session and constantly sought feedback on my essays along with reassurances that GPA aint no thing.

Months and months of writing- editing, reviewing and further editing my essays and resumes bought me to a point that I felt comfortable enough to interview.

I rocked the interview- displayed honesty- worked hard on my essays and gave it all I could possibly have given.

Fast forward to yesterday - I got admitted to Kellogg Part Time.

690 is not bad at all. Maybe you should aim for 2nd tier schools, perhaps it is very difficult to recover from GPA for the top 10.
Just be realistic and don't get upset, ok damage is done with low gpa, but what's important is what can you do now?

Misread the whole thing, my bad - striking through...
