Do the schools call?

Hello,

Do the schools call to check with the recommenders or do they call every single place you have worked over the years to verify your experience?

No, they don't. They get way too many applicants. I suppose they might call or check in from time to time if they have a particular concern, or as a simple random check. But I don't think I've heard of anyone's references getting a call. Most of them do, however, do a background check.

I think the schools only check using background check services such as Kroll, after you get admitted and matriculate.

They called my recommender while doing the Kroll background check. They do it to kill two birds with one stone, if possible. First, to check if your recommender is who you say they are, and, second, to verify your work info. The second part might not be possible, depending on whether your recommender has access to that information; if he or she does not have access, then they will call HR or someone who can verify.
