Does an MBA from Rotman (University of Toronto) open doors to opportunities in the UK and Europe?
Hi all! I’m an East Asian student currently holding MBA offers from major Canadian programs, including Rotman and UBC. However, on a personal level, I still feel more drawn to the UK and Europe because of their rich culture, diversity, and global exposure.
I’d love to hear any advice on whether it makes sense to pursue an MBA at Rotman with the goal of seeking opportunities internationally, or if I should consider reapplying to UK/European programs (either MSc or MBA). As an Asian student, the strength of the school’s global brand is an important factor for me.
My background and goals: I come from a humanities and arts management background (5 years) and am aiming to transition into sustainability consulting, social impact, or ESG-related finance roles.
Initially, I applied to Canadian schools due to their relatively easier immigration pathway. However, with current immigration policies becoming more restrictive and the job market uncertain, I’m rethinking my decision. I’m aware that securing a visa-sponsored job in the UK isn’t easy either, but I wonder which region (Canada vs. UK/Europe) might offer a better long-term outlook.
In terms of academics, I understand Rotman offers a very well-structured program with a strong foundation in business fundamentals and industry-specific knowledge. That said, I know the real value of an MBA often lies in the network, and from what I’ve gathered from students and alumni, Rotman‘s network is primarily centred in Canada.
If I were to reapply to UK schools now, I know I’d be late in the cycle and many seats may already be filled (E.g. Business & Sustainability; Global Strategy & Sustainability).
One fallback I’ve considered is using my current Tier 5 visa to work in the UK for another year, but I’m hesitant. With only a foreign bachelor’ degree, it’s been difficult to land roles that match my experience and aspirations.
Would love to hear your thoughts!
