using "like" inappropriately, for example:
mary loves little mammals like sheep. (INCORRECT)
mary loves little mammals, such as sheep (CORRECT)
'like' should only be used when comparing two or more similar things
ex: mary, like jane, loves little mammals. (CORRECT)
..
"whether or not" - it's redundant... GMAT only likes "whether"
mary does not know whether or not she should milk her sheep today (INCORRECT)
mary does not know whether she should milk her sheep today. (CORRECT)
..
there's a ton of these, and any good SC book will have a comprehensive list. i'd recommend MGMAT SC.
