Hello everyone,

I have a very basic question about Data Suffeciency questions. For the GMAT Focus Edition, does it come under the Data Insights section, Quants section, or both?

Please help.

Hi. On GMAT focus data sufficiency is a part of the data insights.

Originally, data sufficiency was a part of the quantitative section but during the transformation to GMAt focus, all of the quantitative and calculations based questions (number properties, arithmetic, algebra and so), have been removed from data sufficiency so now it’s fully a part of the data insights. Moreover, new question type has been added called non-math related data sufficiency questions, fully cementing the departure from the quantitative origins.

lol. This sounds like and an RC passage or worse- ChatGPT.

Adding tot the above. Pure algebraic questions are no longer a part of the DS syllabus of the GMAT.

DS questions in GMAT Focus encompass various types of word problems, such as:

  • Word Problems
  • Work Problems
  • Distance Problems
  • Mixture Problems
  • Percent and Interest Problems
  • Overlapping Sets Problems
  • Statistics Problems
  • Combination and Probability Problems

While these questions may involve or necessitate knowledge of algebra, arithmetic, inequalities, etc., they will always be presented in the form of word problems. You won’t encounter pure "algebra" questions like, "Is x > y?" or "A positive integer n has two prime factors..."

It seems your question has already been answered in detail. I assume you're asking because most DS questions are based on quant topics, even though they appear in the Data Insights section of the GMAT. With that in mind, a great way to learn and practice DS is by integrating those questions with your quant study. In other words, there's no need to practice DS questions exclusively with the other types in the Data Insights section.
