Does this sentence contain a misplaced modifier or dangling ?
I found somewhere said it contains a misplaced modifier ..?
I see it is a correct sentence
Depending on ........, modifies the subject ( we) neither dangling nor misplaced
Perhaps we can change the dialogue into another version
For example, we can say : Our decision of visiting Washington D.C depends on the weather forecast.
we will decide to go to Washington D.C,but this depends on ...........
Depending on the weather forecast, we will decide to go to Washington D.C.
On my opinion = correct
The problem with this sort of query is that we are asked to analyze a sentence in isolation, something that would not happen with an official SC question. (As
GMATNinja might say, sentences on the exam do not appear in a vacuum.) Someone who was wise to introductory modifier issues that have cropped up in SC questions might cry foul—
we cannot be dependent on a forecast, after all. However, if I saw the sentence in a newspaper, I would not write a letter to the editor and demand the paper publish an errata or anything. The context of the sentence allows me to appreciate what the speaker or writer intends to say. In other words, I do not hold even professional writing to GMAT™ standards on a sentence-by-sentence basis. If we wanted to play it safe, we could simply push the participial phrase to the end:
We will decide to go to Washington, D.C., depending on the weather forecast. There you go. You have to learn to relax your interpretation of sentences somewhat in a non-GMAT™ context, or you will run the risk of going crazy.
Thank you for bringing me into the dialogue.
