I'm an engineer too and I got a Q44 my first time around. I was dissapointed as well and am now focusing on the basics for a second attempt. Its kinda of frsutrating, because you think you know it all but you really dont because there is always some little thing you overlooked.

But in the end, you have an EXCELLLENT score buddy. Your score is enough to get into the most selective schools. If after your finished with the apps and you feel confident you can do better. Take it again and send the new score if its considerably higher.

Cheers.

I think the quant level has gotten harder. I saw 2 probability problems (my area of weakness) and a couple of set problems with rather large data sets... I think the test now tests your ability to get a bunch of calculations done in < 2min...

The verbal section felt pretty much along the lines of GMATPREP, the RC were decent 1 long and 2 standard size ...

I did see 1 Quant and 1 Verbal question right out of GMATPREP.

I am relieved. Finally, the test is over. I am a little dissapointed with the overall score and especially with Quant - me being an engineer.

I think the quant level has defintely gotten higher but I never felt that I was doing as bad as getting a 45. I was stunned to see my scaled score for Quant. The verbal was right on the dot with respect to my 2 GMATPREP tests (got 38 in both).

The AWA sections were a breeze.

I would like to thank everyone on this fantastic forum. I have received invaluable help from the likes of ps_dahiya, u2lover, selene, Professor, sgrover. giddi77, haas_mba and many, many more. I will definitely be sticking around the forums and participating in them frequently.

Would you guys advise me to give it another shot if I wanted to go to a top school ?

I am also an engineer. As a fellow engineer, can you suggest some study strategies or test strategies for the quant as I am also struggling to get a decent score.

Thanks

Even I am an engineer, and now after reading ur maths experience, I am a bit scared. Also it will be great if you can give some tips on AWA.

Thank you for your wishes !

For the AWA, I would say that the topics are relatively easy and I am not a great writer (in fact I hate essays). I would recommend taking atleast 3-4 minutes thinking about the topic and scribbling down important points. Also, I made sure that after 25 min. were done I started typing faster to complete the essay by 28min so that I would have a couple of minutes to read it in the end ( I did find some spelling mistakes)

For quant, I believe the trick is to read the questions carefully. I am guessing that I missed some easy ones by trying to solve them quickly. Alternatively, if you have spent more than 3 min. of a harder problem just stop working and guess so that you can calm down and finish the rest of the section.
