Hey everyone,
So this is my first post but I have been reading these forums for a while for inspiration. I took the GMAT on Friday and got a 770, it was my second attempt. The first time around I got a 680 (Q-66%,V-91%) and completely freaked out during the quantitative section. Anyway below is the download:
Preparation
Probably spent a month preparing the first time I took while not working, this time around I spent about two months preparing for the exam while working. Key difference in my preparation strategy between the two tests-- Taking the GMATPrep program repeatedly to get comfortable with the format of the exam etc. Below are my prep scores:
GMATPrep 1 - 730
GMATPrep 2 - 750
GMATPrep 3 (1) - 710
GMATPrep 4 (2) - 720
800Score 1 - 690
800Score 2 - 710
The Test
Center was great, staff was professional and I wasn't freaking out so I have got to admit that my second attempt was much better than my first attempt. Started at 1pm tho my appointment was at 1:15, it was kind of a first come first serve type of deal.
Quantitative
So this was my achilles heel and even in all of my practice tests I was hovering around a 75% so the result from this section was a complete surprise. The questions started out tough and got tougher till about the 15th question and then they started getting easier, so I was convinced I was messing up. However, I continued to plow through and just about finished in time, had to guess on the last question. Again, the questions were very similar to GMATPrep, lots of number properties and inequalities but nothing too tricky.
Verbal
Prior to the Verbal section I took my break and ate some chocolate. Definitely seemed to help as I began to focus much better when I got to the test. Cranked through a bunch of SCs before hitting up some fairly hard CRs. Then some easy to read RCs but the questions here were tricky. They all seemed to come down a word or two that I could easily have missed. Overall verbal is my strong suit, so I just made sure to check and recheck each answer rather than click to get the test over with quicker. Again with some of the harder SCs and CRs, POE was essential. I actually spent upto 4 minutes on one really tricky CR.
Overall
I am really happy with my score especially since my goal was to break 700 not 750! I am sure luck (esp. last two question on quant) had something to do with. Again for everyone out there who is trying to improve their score, it can be done!
Let me know if you guys have any questions.
