I don't know that Emory is necessarily the better of the two. In terms of name recognition yes. I think It really depends on what you plan to major in. For instance, Georgia State's Management Information Systems program is ranked 10th in the nation, right behind NYU. Now if you are looking to go for Marketing then Emory would definitely be the better choice.
Don't get me wrong, I'm no expert but as I continue to research and ask questions I'm finding that although name recognition is important, if you plan to stay local I'm not sure it is all that important. I do agree that if you are looking to have a shot at Emory you may want to be above 600. Bringing your Verbal score up will get you there. Then, again, some people write killer essays, haver stellar undergrad, awesome references, parents work for the school. . .

. . .etc. and end up accepted. You never know.
