Q- 37 questions, 7 Incorrect!
V - 41 questions, 2 Incorrect
1. While I do remember reading about differences in Q and V Scoring, is it possible for me to do almost 4 times the number of mistakes, and still have a higher score in quant?!
2. I thought Q score seemed more than what it should be (with 7 incorrect!) and V score should have been more (only 2 incorrect leading to a 47!?)
I wonder if there's a chance I could have goofed up the software when i reinstalled it right before the test!
(forgive me, but i am a tech-ignoramus and ultra-wary of mysteries of softwares!)
Also, a GMAT Prep 2 i took a couple of days back gave me a 770, Q 50 and V 44 - three point jump in V doesnt lead to any jump in overall score?
Would be great if someone could explain these apparent discrepancies..Thanks.

The score you have got is completely legitimate. In quant section the score ranges from 6 to 51. The difficulty of questions you answered is what decides your scaled score over a long range more than number of answers you got correct or incorrect. From what I have read from many test takers and experts, most people with upto 4 incorrect get 51 in quant ,5-8 incorrect get 50 and most people who get 35-49 get 10-13 wrong but what sets aside 49 from 35 is difficulty of questions you got. In verbal section though there is direct relation between number of answers you get correct to scaled score you get. Initially for every question you get wrong you lose 2 points but after 3 questions or so you lose one point till your score starts getting very low.
Also if you are scoring more than 760, scores rises very slowly with increase in scaled scores. I have seen some test takers get 750 with q50 v42 and some test taker get 750 with q50 v 44 on real gmat and not just on gmatprep. By the way you are getting very good marks. best of luck for your gmat.

Strike rate alone is meaningless. Incorrectly answering advanced questions hurts you much less than incorrectly answering lower ranked problems.
Over 38 in verbal is 80+ percentile. Small point increments will not help you much. Highest possible score in quant is a 51, getting that won't boost your score either.
Don't dwell on it.
