Condition = He picks at least one book from each category.

Total poetry books = 5
Total novel books = 3
Total self-help books = 4
Total pop up story books = 10

After picking one book from each category,

Remaining poetry books = 4
Remaining novel books = 2
Remaining self-help books = 3
Remaining pop up story books = 9
(Total of 18 remaining books)

Now, how many books does he want to bring with him?

Cases of picking one book = 18C1
Cases of picking two books = 18C2
Cases of picking three books = 18C3
...
Cases of picking eighteen books = 18C18

I don't think I'm getting the answer here :oops:

I think the answer could be different if it was mentioned "atleast" for each category in the question.
I got 600 too.

I did it myself and also got 600. But, I was told the answer is 500. So i dont know if that is correct or not.

It has to be 600, unless the 5 in the answer is really a 6 :lol: :lol:

# of ways to select poetry books = 5C1 = 5
# of ways to select novel = 3C1 = 3
# of ways to select self-help = 4C1 = 4
# of ways to seelct pop up = 10C1 = 10

# of selections = 5*3*4*10 = 600
