The OA is B. I dont have any grammartical reason neither. I picked B because it sounds good. That's it! 8-)

(D) for the production of   it may be but i prefer importance in than "for" 
(E) to produce  unclear

I think between B & D, D changes the meaning

The original sentence says the spiroplasmas and mycoplasmas produce the disease

so B is correct

in D it states that spiroplasmas and mycoplasmas are important for the production however in D it doesnt state that they are the actual "producers" as is the intent of the sentence.
