I got A.

25%a+60%b=39
a+b=100
Solvable

(2) is derivable from the question stem and adds no additional information to the solution.

Exactly, there may be other things in a and b, candies, for example.

dried fruits a=>25% b=>60%
nuts a=>40% b=>20%

I spend sometime trying to understand this question since the table is not clear in the way it is presented. In fact, it says in mixture a there are 25% of dried fruit and 40% nuts, and in mixture b there are 60% dried fruit and 20% nuts. The rest would be other things.

Now we want to make 100 pounds of new mixture using a and b.
In other words, a+b=100

(1) says in the new mixture there would be 39 pounds dried fruit.
In other words, the dried fruit in a plus the dried fruit in b add up to 39 pounds. I'll let you write this equation yourself.

Combine this with the first equation we could solve for a.

(2) didn't tell us anything, as I said before.

Should be A

As a+b=100

Also from (1) 0.25a + 0.6b =39

Can be solved for a

While (2) gives the proportion of candy in a and b

But we still know only a +b =100 nuthin else
