I am with jj on this one. Or it could be that I am having a really bad night at the office today... I am usually good at Geometry. But I can not seem to prove that <BAD=x. And I usually trust OG in general... Can somebody clarify this, please?

jj, are you sure you have not left anything out?

I was also not able to understand this explanation from OG. Generally, all the explanations are are very good in OG but this one does not make sense to me.

The only thing that I can think of at this point is that the OG question itself left out the info that angle A = x degrees. (i.e. was supposed to be given).

Thoughts?

jjhko,
I looked at the problem and think that the information that angle BAD =x is missing.

Based on that information,

if ABD = y,
(external angle = sum of opposite interior)

BDC = ABD + BAD
2x = y+x
or x = y

As AD = 6, (opposite to ABD=y=x)
=>BD = 6 (opposite to BAD=x=y)

Although the question would be a bit weird then...
