A. 1/30
B. 1/25
C. 11/12
D. 14/15
E. 24/25

each copy of a 300-page book is missing exactly one page

each copy is not missing the same page => any page in the book can be missed => all pages are equally likely to be missed

text of the book is only 288 pages, the other 12 are blank

probability that any single copy is missing a page of text = $$\frac{288}{300}$$ = $$\frac{24}{25}$$

Hence option E

$$\frac{288}{30}0$$

= $$\frac{144}{150}$$

= $$\frac{24}{25}$$, Answer must be (E)

How did you knew that the book that the question is asking about has 288 and not 300 pages?

Hello,

As per the question statement, each copy of a 300-page book is missing one page.

The book has 300 pages of which 288 pages contain text and 12 pages are blank. Both of them add up to 300. Since the question asks for the probability of text page missing from any single copy, we have $$\frac{288}{300}$$
