Due to an obscure technicality in food labeling known as the batter-coating rule, French fries are legally considered fresh vegetables. The batter-coating rule stipulates that any vegetable that has been processed – such as a cucumber that has been waxed or a strawberry that has been sweetened – is still considered fresh as long as it is perishable, and French fries are the result of processing a vegetable.

batter coating rule states that any vegetable that has been processed ( be it waxed or sweetened) is considered fresh as long as it is perishable.
french fries are result of processing a vegetable.

conclusion= french fries are legally considered fresh vegetables.

so if its perishable, its considered as fresh. and since french fried are considered fresh vegetables, it must be assumed that its perishable.

option C states the same thing.

Conclusion: French fries are  legally considered fresh  vegetables.
Support : Any vegetable that is processed ----> is still fresh as long as its perishable and French fries are a result of processing

So, if something is processed, it can still be considered a fresh vegetable if its perishable. The  GAP here between the suppport and the conclusion  is that the argument is assuming French fries are perishable

A.  Out of scope:  Whether French fries are healthy is irrelevant. The argument is about the legal definition of "fresh," not nutritional value.

B.  Out of scope:  This has no bearing on whether French fries satisfy the legal criteria for being classified as fresh vegetables.

C.  Correct:  If something is processed it can still be fresh (legally)  if its perishable. This plugs the GAP

D.  Incorrect:  The examples of waxing and sweetening merely illustrate what counts as processing. French fries need not be waxed or sweetened; they only need to be processed.
