Is anyone staying for a class visit on Monday? I'm debating it. I wasn't planning to, but it seems like they might pay for the hotel room so if it wouldn't cost any extra money that would be excellent.

aaudetat - any recommendations on classes. I'm coming from DC so will probably drive and plan to arrive by noon.

in terms of core courses, your choices are accounting, micro, stats, and marketing. All of the profs are good, but stats is less interesting, particularly for someone who is just visiting. I am not in marketing, so can't comment. I would recommend econ. Both profs are a trip.

Hi aaudetat,
I would not be able to attend a class on Monday as I have to be back on work. Is there any class that I can attend on thursday evening? Or can I meet students on thursday. I wish to make the most of this trip thus asking you all these questions?

Since you are on the planning committee for the event, maye you could answer my questions below?

Will Duke cover Thursday night hotel stay?
Also, how would I get from the airport to the hotel? Is taxi fare reimbursable?
If my boss doesn't let me take Friday off, will it be OK if i attend only Saturday and Sunday events?

So smart casual means we can wear jeans or denim?? Can we also wear dresses? I mean not those dressy dresses but the ones that are nice and casual?

Ladies -

Don't stress too much about the clothes. They said smart casual because while that part of the program isn't formal - no interviewing, no need to look "professional" - they didn't want people to look like slackers. So just look nice. Think going out for dinner (you wouldn't wear scruffy stuff) - medium price restaurant (no need for pearls/fancy dresses) - with the new boyfriend's parents (don't look tarty, to be blunt). Be casual, but look cute.

Does that make sense?

Re: classes.

I just realized that we'll be JUST STARTING our second term, so some of the classes I mentioned previously don't apply.

Term 2 core classes: Marketing, Strategy, Global Finance. There may be some others, but I didn't test out of anything, so I'm taking only the prescribed core courses - no skipping ahead for me.

I posted these to the folks in charge. When I hear back I will post here.

Here's what I found out:

Women will be responsible for their rooms for Thursday night.

The participants are responsible for their airfare and taxis to and from the airport.

It is fine if they are unable to make the Friday events as we will leave their registration materials at the front desk at the Washington Duke Inn.

Please contact Meghan in admissions if you need any other special arrangements or have questions about this.

And I encourage you all to come on Friday -- Fuqua Friday is a great experience, and Friday evening is when you'll meet your liaisons -- FY students we've paired with you based on mutual interests. Not to be missed!

turns out i've got a broken arm and a broken wrist - two fractures for the price of one.

Generally, though, things are better. While the arm/wrist hasn't made much progress, my bruising and general aches and pains are largely subsided. Finals week has not helped matters, however. One last little test and then I'm off for a week...finally!

Just wanted to let you know that the Weekend for Women was great!
I was very impressed by how well students planned the activities and the schedule! We were almost never alone (except our hotel rooms but even there we had a roommate to chat with).

I am very excited about the program and especially people. Team Fuqua is truly inspiring!
