There are many benefits to timing your practice, including:
During 2005, a company produced an average of 2,000 products per month. How many products will the company need to produce from 2006 through 2008 in order to increase its monthly average for the period from 2005 through 2008 by 200% over its 2005 average?
Now, in order the monthly average, from 2005 through 2008, to be 6,000 products per month, the company should produce total of 6,000*48 products in these four years (48 months).
Since in 2005, the company produced total of 2,000*12 products, then from 2006 through 2008, the company should produce 6,000*48-2,000*12=2,000*12*(3*4-1)=2,000*12*11=264,000.
Answer: D.
Hope it's clear.
Why can't we simply do this to find no. products from 2006-2008 --> 6000 x 3 (years) x 12 (months) = 216000. Can please somebody help me to understand the question.

Becasue we need the average from 2005 through 2008 to be 6,000, not from 2006 through 2008.

Apeksha2101 You need the average for the period 2005 to 2008 to go up to 6000. But in 2005 only 2000 products were produced per months. If you produce 6000 per month from 2006 to 2008, can the average of 2005 to 2008 be 6000? No. You have not made up for the deficit of 2005. So you must add 4000*12 since each month of 2005 had a deficit of 4000 which needs to be covered up in 2006 to 2008 period.
Hence you will get 216000 + 4000*12 = 264000
Check this video on arithmetic mean. It will help you understand the basics of this question: https://youtu.be/W-qhIZ29UIs
The 4-year (2005-08) MONTHLY average should be 3 times (Increase BY 200%) the 2005 average.
We get the following equation:
[24000 (2000*12) + X]/48 = 3(2000)
Just put the choices in X and check if you get 6000.
Be strategic, I put 148000 but it yields less than 4000 on rough calculation so we need to jump a bit higher, I picked 264000 next which was the correct choice.
