If the usual price of the plant is 2x, one-half of it will be x.

Observe that, instead of just assuming the variable as ‘x’ all the time, it makes sense to pick variables based on the information given in the question.Having read the question, I know that I have to find half of some unknown value. So, naturally, I picked the unknown as 2x since half of this will be x.

This way, I don’t have to deal with unnecessary fractions during simplification.

Ms.Ross paid a total of $1.80 for the plants. This means, 2x + x = 1.80, which gives us x = 0.60.

2x being the usual price of the plant, this comes out to be $1.20. The correct answer option is D.

Hope this helps!
