In this question, we are given that
- • During an 8-hour trip, Brigitte drove 3 hours at 55 miles per hour and 5 hours at 65 miles per hour
To find
We need to determine
- • The average rate, in miles per hour, for the entire trip
Approach and Working out
Total distance travelled in the trip = (3 x 55 + 5 x 65) miles = (165 + 325) miles = 490 miles
Total time taken to travel the distance = 8 hours
- • Average rate, in miles per hour = 490/8 miles per hour = 61.25 miles per hour
Thus, option C is the correct answer.
