During each day last week, A person get paid at $12 each hour for the first 8 hours and then 1.5times of this rate each hour after 8 hours. How many hours did John work last Tuesday?
1) On Tuesday, John worked more than 4 hours than Monday, and got $48 more paid.
2) On Wednesday, John worked more than 3 hours than Tuesday, and got $48 more paid.
1) On Tuesday, John worked more than 4 hours than Monday, and got $48 more paid.
2) On Wednesday, John worked more than 3 hours than Tuesday, and got $48 more paid.

the answer can be B and D.
For less than or equal to 8 hours --> payment=12X
For more than 8 hours --> payment=96+(X-8)18
St 1 is suff.:
Since the difference is 4 hours and payment 48, 48/4=12 which is the hourly rate for <=8. So, he worked 4 hours on monday and 8 hours on tuesday.

BUT, what if he didn't work at all on monday? So he might have worked only 4 hours on Tuesday.

St 2 is suff:
the difference in payment is 48, so 48/3 = 16, which is more than hourly payment rate for <8 but less than that for 8<. So he must have worked more than 8 hours but less than 11 hours. Only 10 satisfies st.2.
The answer is D.
