In Sentence Correction questions testing comparisons, you need to make sure you create a logical, idiomatic, and parallel comparison (L.I.P.). In this example, the primary issue is the idiomatic choice. Because comparison idioms are so common in language, you must know the common ones: more than/less than, as many as/as much as, etc. (A), (B), and (C) all contain a redundant comparison structure that is always wrong: since the comparative word “stronger” begins the comparison (as is the case with “more”) you cannot also have “compared to” – we already know it’s a comparison from the word “stronger!” In (E) the word “as” is incorrect as the correct idiomatic structure is “stronger than” not “stronger as.” Correct answer is (D).
