Although this does not seem to be exactly a “GMAT Type” of question, these questions are nevertheless great resources to improve on your percentage change concepts.
In a question like this with a bar graph at my disposal, I will always try to estimate the change OR percentage change by how steeply the value has gone up/down.
From the bar graph on earnings, clearly, the steepest increase is from 86 to 87. This has to be the highest change in the earnings between two consecutive years. If you want to be surer, you can actually calculate the change and you will see that the earnings have doubled – from 5 million in 86 to 10 million in 87.
The only other increase that we see in the bar graph is between 87 and 88, but that’s clearly not the highest.
Also, options A, C, D and E can be eliminated because they represent three-year periods, whereas the question asks us about a two year period.
IMO, The correct answer option is B.
Hope this helps!
