Each of the salespeople should be in singular form I guess. Can you please clarify why "were" is correct here?
This problem has serious issues, but, ironically, that part is fine.
You have a group (
the salespeople who were retained...).
A statement is made about each member of that group (
Each of the salespeople who were retained...)
Otherwise, though... oh boy!
Choice A is indicated as the correct answer, but it contains at least three errors:
• A modifier starting with the relative pronoun
that—instead of
who—is used to describe PEOPLE.
(This error is in every choice.)
• The sentence doesn't make sense with "
after the company was acquired". The meaning is only sensible and reasonable if this part is replaced with "
when the company was acquired" (or some other form with the same meaning, e.g., "during the acquisition of the company").
(This mistake is also in all five options.)
• "
Any of the other team members" is also singular, for exactly the same reason why "each of the team members" would be singular.
The best approach to this problem is to disregard it altogether.
