Ear plugs

Question

I have read many test takers talk about using ear plugs coming handy for concentration. I went to the center here (Irvine, CA) and they told me that they would give some sort of a colored (it was looking red colored; like a CD player ear phone) ear phone, but am allowed to bring my own.

Is this red one the guys talk about? Or is it something I should buy outside? If so, does anyone know where I can buy these?

The ones that they have at the test center are like the ones that the ground crew of an airport would have. I don't know about anyone else, but I felt like there a tunnel sort of sound and I could hear my heartbeat racing. I think the next time round, I will pick up a set of earplugs. I think a pharmacy would carry it ie CVS, Walgreens.

Since your are in Irvine (incidently where i took my test), you can pick up earplugs for about 40cents at the UCI bookstore. To get there, take Culver towards UCI, take a right on campus, and then a left on W peltason drive, then first left, and park in the garage. 

Earplugs are a necessity, by a pair for each section since they tend to get harder to insert each time you remove them. 

I haven't seen the Prometric center one's, but I wouldn't take any chances.

I would definitely bring your own earplugs, and do at least one practice test while wearing them. The first time I used earplugs I could hear every breath I took and it was very distracting. You have to get used to them. I disliked them so much I wouldn't use them at a test center unless it was really loud.

I friend recommended that I bring ear plugs and it made all the difference. I scored a 710 (46, 42) and got in the zone in verbal. The test centers are loud and people are coming and going.
