2021 Economist MBA Rankings

The Economist has released their 2021 rankings, which is a welcome sight during the pandemic year.
I also applaud them to for sticking with their methodology and not saying that HBS, Stanford, Wharton, or INSEAD are world's top Business Schools.

Unfortunately, it appears the Top MBA programs have not sent in their data and thus are missing wreaking Havoc on the whole rankings There is no HBS, No Booth, No Kellogg, Wharton, Stanford, or Sloan, or Yale... or even Fuqua. I do appreciate the schools that did participate in the rankings that they sent in their data but unfortunately because the other ones did not, that ruins the whole thing for everone

Just to add, this isn’t necessarily a surprise as there have been a number of indicators and petitions from GMAC on behalf of business schools to suspend rankings this year. I don’t think we have heard schools directly announcing it but I am somewhat torn about this decision.

On one hand I understand schools wanting to fill up their classes and border closures and visa counselor office closures have contributed to smaller classes. Also, some programs have given deferral‘s that were pretty generous and that created a balancing act between having some of your best people take deferral‘s and having some of the weaker people join in and the screening at unbalance class. At the same time, it would be helpful to see which programs fared better in the catastrophic event like this. I’m hoping we will see this in someway

Many schools still published their class profiles. I actually think all schools have published employment reports in class profiles so why did they not participate in the rankings? Fear of looking bad and that they have performed worse than the others?

It’s been a year of hardship for schools But it also has been a hardship for everyone. Usually the character shows up in the years of hardship and that makes me thrilled to see schools like Michigan and Carlson and type of participating in the rankings and disclosing their numbers and being open to being evaluated on their performance. Everyone does well in good years, and every financial advisor will perform awesome during the booming years but it’s really during the downturn when certain funds shine While others tank....

I hope more schools join Ross and Tepper and Carlson.
