28 years, Male, Indian demographic.
Undergrad: top 10 university in India, GPA 3.5, EE Major
Graduate School: Top 15 in US ,by US News
Graduate School Major: EE
Graduate School GPA: 3.3
GMAT Score: cold practice test : 680, 3-4 months prep expect 750+?
Experience: 2.5 year in Oct 2014 at a Fortune 10 best companies to work for, best chip maker for phones in the world, Total exp 3 years , 6 months for another fortune 500 company.
Other: Interested in Cancer related NGOs and Animal Welfare ( some charities and volunteer work), might be filing a patent at work this year
Reason: Honestly to shift careers from current engineering position to Finance or entrepreneurship
Work Ex: An Engineer position with possible promotion in december, no management role yet
Can I get into top 7?
Will my Grad GPA hurt?
Should I take up leadership opportunities out of work, chances of getting a leadership role at work are low. Can become feature leads in a major project.
I am planning to submit my application this year by Oct (usually round 2 for the M10s),.
Should I wait for promotion and apply next year ? what else can I do to build my profile?

Hello there good sir,
So first of all its a weeee bit hard to evaluate without an ACTUAL GMAT. when are you planning on taking the exam? (I hope by the end of June). Now, juuuuust for arguments sake, let's say you hit a 730+, given that you are a non-IIT Indian Male Tech, Top 10 are still stretches for you (I wouldn't suggest waiting for the promotion, but the patent could help!), so supposing such a score, I'd suggest widening your targets to top 20 schools, and then having one or two safe schools.
What else can I write? I'm tempted to ask: What else you got? Okay, so you have two degree with decent grades and good work experience. But so does everyone else. What will make you stand out? What will make you interest the Adcoms? What will make you unique?

There are a few things I believe I can add but not sufficient to make me unique.
Leadership Potential:
I have demonstrated good leadership skills at work; took ownership of key features in big projects, worked with major customers and interacted with teams from different countries (Israel, India, UK) to execute project goals.
Extras: I make my own Android Apps and publish them on Google Play ( but a lot of Indian tech guys do that too). Before considering an MBA I wanted to start my own Android App company targeted for specific clients, I figured out a niche market for this. I have a fairly good network around me and can realistically start such a venture.
Is it a good idea to start such a venture to make me stand out for the adcoms? This is the reason why I want to start my preparations a year early, and work on improving my chances. Would you suggest anything else?
It's definitely quite arrogant of me to assume a 750+ score without actually taking the GMAT, but given my timeline for preparation (and the mock CATS), I don't think it is unachievable. If I do fail to get a 750+, or if my chances of getting into a top 7 are pretty low, then I will probably skip the whole MBA game and put all my eggs in the startup basket.
