28 years, Male, Indian demographic.
Undergrad: top 10 university in India, GPA 3.5, EE Major
Graduate School: Top 15 in US ,by US News
Graduate School Major: EE
Graduate School GPA: 3.3
GMAT Score: cold practice test : 680, 3-4 months prep expect 750+?
Experience: 2.5 year in Oct 2014 at a Fortune 10 best companies to work for, best chip maker for phones in the world, Total exp 3 years , 6 months for another fortune 500 company.
Other: Interested in Cancer related NGOs and Animal Welfare ( some charities and volunteer work), might be filing a patent at work this year
Reason: Honestly to shift careers from current engineering position to Finance or entrepreneurship
Work Ex: An Engineer position with possible promotion in december, no management role yet
Can I get into top 7?
Will my Grad GPA hurt?
Should I take up leadership opportunities out of work, chances of getting a leadership role at work are low. Can become feature leads in a major project.
I am planning to submit my application this year by Oct (usually round 2 for the M10s),.
Should I wait for promotion and apply next year ? what else can I do to build my profile?

Hi there,
Thanks for posting. Sounds like you've got some good technical skills, but at this point there's a lot I don't know about you, and we're missing something about you to help you stand out from the HUGE crowd of applicants at top b-schools, and there are a lot of engineering applicants out there with fairly similar profiles as well. Here are some various thoughts that come to mind in reading your profile:
-be sure you do nail that GMAT!! 750 would of course be amazing but pretty tough to do; consider some quality test-prep such as Manhattan GMAT or Kaplan
-you will have fewer than average years of work experience, so if you feel you would get a promotion and additional opportunities to demonstrate leadership or management exposure by waiting a year, you may have better chances at that point
-think about (and work towards developing) initiatives you lead; examples of going above and beyond what is expected; examples of motivating and influencing others; leadership skills; presentation and communication skills.
Right now I believe the top 7 or even top 15 or so would be a big stretch... the GMAT will provide a rough idea of tier to aim for though, while a great GMAT isn't sufficient to get you in... but again can be a guide on types of schools you'd have better chances at.

Regarding the leadership exp.,I was always interested in animal welfare, so will joining an NPO for a few months as a volunteer and trying to make an impact in the NGO,dd to leadership/motivation components in my profile. Also, if I believe I do not have a significant role, i want to start my own animal welfare NGO.
All this, considering that I will be applying next year for the Fall 2016-2018 batch after my promotion. Management and communication/presentation skills are something I believe I can abundantly show from my work experience, but a real leadership position is not really possible to get at this phase of my career. will also be filing a few patents this year and next, hope that adds some more weight.
Will starting informal clubs, like an android apps group, entrepreneurship group, etc help my profile on top of the animal welfare NGO thing.
My biggest worry is my age, I will be 30 next Nov, when I am applying and will be 32 when I graduate
