perhaps I do not understand. If we are looking for the length of each side of the square. If the are is 1 ft squared, does this not mean that each side is 1 ft in length...which means we can figure out the perimeter? I think it is D.
We can find the dimensions of each square. But, we can form a rectangle out of 8 squares two ways. 1 square by 8 squares having a perimeter equal to 1x+1x+8x+8x where x is the length of one side of the square. Or we could have 2 squares by 4 squares having a perimeter of 2x+2x+4x+4x.
In scenario 1 the perimeter is 18x. In scenario 2 the perimeter is 12x. Neither statement is sufficient.
