let gasoline be Rs 100/litre
now new car gives average 50 % more
therefore new car gives 150 km/L
whereas diesel is 20% more expensive
therefore diesel price is Rs 120/litre
let car travel 1000km
old car expen. Rs 1000 ( (1000/100) * 100)
new car expend. Rs 800 ( (1000/150) * 120)
20% money he can save
let gasoline be Rs 100/litre

Distance:
Let the distance for both old and new car = \(100\)km.
Efficiency:
As the new car is 50% more fuel efficient, if it takes the new car \(10\)l of fuel to cover \(100\)km then it will take the old car \(1.5*10 = 15\)l of fuel to cover \(100\)km.
Price:
If the price of the price of petrol for the old car costs $\(10\) per liter, then diesel for the new car will cost \(10*1.2 = 12\)
What percent will Elmer save money if he uses his new car instead of his old car:
Cost to cover 100km with the new car: \(12*10 = 120\)
Cost to cover 100km with the ole car: \(10*15 = 150\)
\(\frac{150-120}{150}\)
\(\frac{30}{150}\)
\(\frac{1}{5}\) which is 20%
