EMBA Programs: $20k-$130k Scholarships - Maximizing Your Odds
I am often asked whether many of the top U.S. EMBA programs offer scholarships. For many years, the answer was ‘no.’ But, in recent years, given the increase in demand among executives for EMBA programs, top business schools often find themselves wanting to ensure excellent candidates choose them instead of competitor business schools. For example, Kellogg is sometimes willing to offer a $30,000 - $60,000 scholarship so you matriculate with them, rather than explore options at a competitor like MIT Sloan.
How big are the scholarships?
In general, top EMBA programs like Kellogg, Booth, MIT Sloan, and Wharton award scholarships in sizes that have varied from $20,000 to $130,000. Even if the scholarship is $20,000, that can go a long way in covering travel costs and other expenses for the program. It’s better for that money to come from the school rather than from your pocket!
Separate application process? No – it’s largely the quality of the application!
Is there a separate application process a candidate must complete to be considered for a scholarship at a top EMBA program? No, the majority of top EMBA programs draw on the strength of the applications and candidacies to determine the allocation of scholarships. There is no separate application process – all the more reason to make sure that the application you present is stellar!
Maximizing odds
How can you maximize your odds of gaining a scholarship to a top EMBA program? Consider these steps:
• Outstanding essays. Ensure you present outstanding essays that convey how much you have to bring to the school, how much you have contributed already to your current employer, and the great future potential and goals you have.
• Impeccable recommendations. Make sure that your recommendation writers present wonderful portraits of your achievements, skills, professional contributions, ability to contribute to your business school cohort, and future potential.
• Shining resume. Your resume provides the admissions committee with an important snapshot of your candidacy. Through your resume, you have the opportunity to highlight achievements and credentials in the areas the admissions committee most cares about – and in the process, you can get them really excited about your candidacy.
