Hello Charles,
I am Satya, 1st year MBA at WashU. I understand your query and would try my best to answer/clarify in an unbiased way.
If you ask me about my experience, in short - I love my experience at WashU. I love the people I meet here. The community is truly tight-knit and supportive.
Congratulations on those great admit! This is a great feat. Both are excellent universities but you need to see where you feel belong. Consulting at WashU is strong - Mckinsey and BCG and AT Kearney come to campus to hold sessions/recruit. In recent years a strong pipeline to BCG is being made. For marketing, Indiana Kelley would have been the best. But out of Emory and WashU, both places have similar opportunities.
St. Louis is a great city, underrated to many extents. Very cheap to live in. Nice people. I love living in St. Louis.
As far as ranking goes, WashU ranked 25th in the financial times global MBA ranking i.e 12th in the US. But USNEWS has seen a decline in Olin's ranking. I would say rankings are quite volatile and should be taken with a pinch of salt. WashU ranks consistently with its tier schools such as Emory, Rice, IU, Foster, Notre Dame, Georgetown, Georgia Tech, etc. Any school in this bucket would provide you with arguably similar career outcomes. So, I won't worry too much about Usnews ranking. It's only a few years to get back to its old ranking of ~25.
I wish you consider WashU as your option. It's a highly reputed university with excellent professors teaching. I love every single bit of my experience. I can speak to you more, should you want to. linkedin -
