Once upon a time, a humanities grad found herself on a quest for inspiration. She hadn't done maths in 12 years and had five months to slay a beast called GMAT in order to gain the key to a magical kingdom called HBS.
Has this feat of this nature (or something similar) been accomplished before?
This isn't a feat; it's a small conquest at best! It needs no superhuman skills.
Every year, every class of every B school has many humanities grads. They all slog on Quant for a few months to get it up to speed. I don't see why you shouldn't be able to do it with the right guidance. On the other hand, you will find Verbal easy - you have no idea of the number of engineers, accountants and bankers who would be happy to give you their 1 year salary in exchange for your skill in Verbal.
Start with trying out some easy GMAT questions. I am assuming you will not be comfortable with them since you haven't done any Math in the last 12 years. You might find it helpful to go back to your high school books and revise elementary algebra, arithmetic and geometry. Then take a course/self study with a set of prep books - whatever works for you!
Here is a post highlighting a few things that GMAC would like you to know (special emphasis on the last point):
