Thank you, AjiteshArun! My CR ranges between 33-35 in gmatprep. CR questions were particularly so difficult in my exam. I hate questions like bold sentences and asking their roles. Guess what? I got like 3 of those. LOL. After spending so much time on those question in the actual exam, i thought id better focus on SC and RC. I guess id go back to studying the basics of CR. Thanks again for your feedback!

Hi jamesyang424,

Based on your ESR, since your Critical Reasoning score was in the 5th percentile, I agree that you should first spend some time improving your Critical Reasoning skills. When studying Critical Reasoning, your first goal is to fully master the individual Critical Reasoning topics: Strengthen the Argument, Weaken the Argument, Resolve the Paradox, etc. As you learn about each question type, do focused practice so that you can track your skill in answering each type. If, for example, you get a weakening question wrong, ask yourself why. Did you make a careless mistake? Did you not recognize the specific question type? Were you doing too much analysis in your head? Furthermore, you must keep in mind that most Critical Reasoning questions contain one or more trap answers that seem to answer the question but don't really. So, a key part of training to correctly answer Critical Reasoning questions is learning to notice the key logical differences between trap answers and correct answers. This type of recognition will not happen overnight, but as you begin mastering each CR topic, you will find that your ability to pick out trap answers is greatly elevated.

If you’d also like advice regarding how to improve your Sentence Correction and Reading Comprehension skills, feel free to reach out, and I can provide some further advice.
Good luck!

Hi jamesyang424,

As you have mentioned, CR was clearly your weakness despite you having spent good time on it. Looking at your ESR and other aspects that you have mentioned in the post, I think you will find the below-mentioned article to be very useful:

Hello Gmatclubbers!

I started studying for the GMAT since August but it's been really difficult managing my work and studying.
Since there wasn't much time left, I really focused on only SC and RC for Verbal last two months, totally neglecting CR... (as is very well reflected in my ESR.
I realize once again that the score is too honest!)

I'm planning on taking another exam first or second week of December. Before doing so, I wanted to ask for your help and see how I can better tackle it next time.

I'd greatly appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

Try to practice identifying conclusion, premise and underlying assumption.
Once you are good at it then try to read slowly with some purpose or intent(might sound silly but i imagine that im some kinda Sherlock or something and try to find these . Once you master reading them (without dozing off :P) then try to prethink..go through egmat articles or webinar for this step and slowly increase the toughness while practicing in gmatclub. All the best
