ESR Analysis | Super Perplexed - Experts please help

Hello Experts

I gave my GMAT 3rd time on TUE.

Had scored the following the on practice tests -

Manhattan 690
Veritas 1 700
Veritas 2 690
Veritas 3 680
Vertias 4 680

GmatPrep2 - 730 (Q48 V42)

And on Real GMAT 660 --> Q47, V34.
I was happy with my preparation and thought I will at least get a 700 but alas,

Have taken the appointment again in 3 weeks to give the GMAT again, today I ordered the ESR.

Will appreciate if you can help me realize what went wrong and how to avoid it the fourth time

Dear alnewton, I am sorry you have got a lower score than expected. Although I am not an expert, I would like to say some things that might be the reason you got that score. May be you had a tough day, were not as focused, or were stressed out because of the exam. For the next time, you should be more focused and calm. Also, try not to think about your previous score. I usually get very different scores on different tests. So, keep in mind that you have prepared well and just ace the GMAT!! Wishing you luck on the exam day!!!

Hi alnewton,

First off, a 660/Q47 is a strong score (it's right around the 80th percentile overall), so it could be enough to get you into your first-choice School. There's certainly no harm in retesting though. Depending on the Schools that you plan to apply to, you would likely find it beneficial to speak with an Admissions Expert about your overall profile. There's a Forum full of them here:

GMAC has publicly stated that the Official Score that you earn on Test Day is within +/- 30 points of actual ability. Assuming a similar 'swing' in how your CATs function, your CAT score results - and Official GMAT Score - show that you essentially performed in the same range time (about 690 +/- a few points). This is meant to say that you could potentially have hit 700+ on Test Day, but you made a few too many mistakes and lost the points that you needed to get to that level.

Before we talk about your ESR, I have a few questions about how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) How long have you studied?
2) What study materials have you used so far?
3) How have you scored on each of your CATs (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for each)?
4) Did you take the FULL CAT each time (with the Essay and IR sections)?

Goals:
5) What is your exact goal score?
6) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
7) What Schools are you planning to apply to?

Hi  alnewton

Can you provide the Verbal scores and RC/CR/SC splits for all your mocks?
Seems like you performed the worst on CR questions.. which can be due to something lacking in CR approach. Also, you got many questions wrong in the first 10-15 questions, which can significantly affect overall scores.

Also provide the following - 
1) According to you, what's your strength in Verbal section - in order of strength CR/RC/SC?
2) How do you approach Verbal questions? Do you write options on the pad? Look for the right answer?

1. Have been studying for past 3 months
2. Exhausted all official stuff + official questions on GMATClub
3. My CATs were 
Veritas - always 35+ on V and fluctuated for 48 - 51 on Q
Manhattan - V38 Q47 (690)
GMATPrep2 - V42 Q48 (730)

4. Almost every time with AWA and IR, my order was V,Q,IR, AWA
5. Exact goal score was 710+ want to get into IIMs in INDIA. The avg GMAT is 710, 660 is a difficult score for them.

Yes it seems CR was horrible

1. CR<SC<RC as per my mocks
2. Write them on Pads and eliminate.

Hi  alnewton , in the exam, you spent the most time on Critical Reasoning, while your percentile score is the lowest in Critical Reasoning (in the Verbal section).

So, Critical Reasoning clearly emerges as one area that you should focus on, in the next few weeks.

Just gave my 7th and last Veritas practice test, scored 710 (Q50, V 37).

Have my GMAT next satday. I have started building a lot of resentment towards this exam, which can really mess my prospects of getting in my dream school.

What study materials have you used so far? What materials are you planning to use going forward? As you had left the last question on the Quant Section, your score would 
have definitely been impacted. I feel with a bit of preparation, your target 
score of 650 is definitely achievable.
