I have been analysing my Mock Tests for Verbal and DI where I got the exact same score. Verbal 79/51%ile and DI 77/66%ile. There has been a gap of around 10 days between the 2 mocks where I specifically focused on the mistakes. I would also like to mention that the Verbal score is on par with my Official GMAT Focus exam where I scored a V80 in July. It doesn't make sense me trying to hone my CR skills over the few months and still scoring the exact same. Same goes for Quant where I scored a Q85 in the official exam and the 2 mocks. (not worried about Quant for now although I feel like I can do better. 1/4 mistakes is a very silly error) Even DI hasn't shown much improvement. Seems like my score has plateaued.
- The main issue in the last mock and in general for me is bad time management. This led me to guess mark the last 3/4 questions of both Verbal and DI. This time I strictly followed the time benchmarking strategy where I divided the paper into 4 quarters and timed myself according to it. I also focused on less re-reading for verbal and letting a question go in case I am not able to solve it in the desired time limit (<3 mins)
Verbal - Practiced RCs as they were taking me time and revised CRs (Strengthen/Weaken especially as it was my weak area)
DI - Revised the old mistakes as I had maintained an error log. I haven't done a lot of Very Hard (95%) rating questions as I thought they might be too tough but whatever I had done, I revised. This is for all topics. Now looking back, I realised that GMAT throws really hard DI questions at you. None were easy and all were Medium to Hard level. Maybe I need to practice harder questions.
Quant - I also made it a point to revise some of my Quant concepts (for DI score improvement and Quant weaknesses in general) like Mixtures, Stats/Sets, Distance/Rate, Combinations, Div/Mul./Factors via official questions (tried following the streak method for Easy, Medium, Hard) and TTP Custom Tests. In the TTP Custom Tests got above 85% accuracy in all. I also gave some timed mixed questions with Easy / Medium and Hard difficulties in paper like conditions.
Accuracy in Verbal for Mock 3 -
Did not analyse but have attached the screenshots of the ESR. Can do if you need me to.
This was my analysis for it -
In the current mock, it seemed I was able to do whatever CR question was thrown at me. All the CR questions were 35% to 85% difficulty. I was able to solve pretty hard questions as well (85% difficulty on GMATClub) and made only 2 mistakes (55% and 65% difficulty). However, in RC made mistakes in 2 medium level questions and one hard.
For hard CR questions (>50% difficulty) I took 2.61mins on average and for medium ones I took 2.26 mins.
Overall, on average, for CR I took 2.48mins and was able to do 6/8 questions correct
For RC questions I took on an average 1.96mins and was able to do 8/11 correct.
This brings the overall average to 2.22mins. And 45/2.22 ~ 20 questions
It seems that this little extra in CR is causing me trouble complete the paper as I had to rush through the last 4 questions with just 2 mins remaining. This led me to fluke a complete easy RC short paragraph.
Accuracy in DI for Mock 3 -
Easy - (0/0) = 100%
Medium - (9/11) = ~81%
Hard (4/9) = ~45%
Accuracy in Verbal for Mock 4 -
Easy - CR (1/1), RC (4/5) = (5/6) = ~84%
Medium - CR (5/8), RC (1/3) = (6/11) = ~54%
Hard = CR (3/4), RC (0/2) = (3/6) = 50%
Accuracy in DI for Mock 4 -
Easy - (0/0) = 100%
Medium - (5/8) = ~62.5%
Hard (4/12) = ~33.33%
Analysis - My final understanding is that my RCs are not as good as I think. My CR seems to be sorted as the time per question has relatively gone down. My executive decision making/time management skills have gone up.I also realised that DI can go pretty hard and I am not well prepared for the hardest of the hard questions which the adaptive test can throw at me.What do you think of this?In order to handle these I am thinking of
- using TTP and long LSAT, official passages for RC.
- using TTP for specific Quant weaknesses
- using GMATClub Forum Quiz for DI questions with a focus on Hard and Very Hard questions
Would appreciate the experts to give suggestions about how to move ahead.
