Hi Ayush,

I'm sorry to hear that Test Day didn't go as well as planned. When these types of score drops occur, the two likely "causes" involve either something that was unrealistic during practice or something that was surprising (or not accounted for) on Test Day. Before we discuss any of those potential issues though - along with the data in your ESR - it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

1) How long have you studied? How many hours did you typically study each week?
2) Have you used any other “brands” of CATs/mocks besides the Official ones?
3) If you took any other CATs/mocks, then on what dates (or approximate dates) did you take EACH of those CATs and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?
4) What Schools are you planning to apply to and what specific application deadlines are you facing?

Hi Ayushbaheti.

Probably, the reason your verbal score plummeted is that some of the materials you used to prepare either included some of the verbal questions that appear on the official practice tests or included questions that are copies of verbal questions on the official practice tests. Either way, when you took the official practice tests, you had already seen either the questions or the patterns of the questions ahead of time, and therefore your practice test scores were inflated. Then, when you took the actual GMAT, you hadn't seen the verbal questions before, and your score was lower.

So, your move is to keep working on verbal and do your best to use practice questions that are not from the official practice tests or based on the questions in the official practice tests.

For an in-depth discussion of how to prepare for GMAT verbal effectively, see these posts.

2) Have you used any other “brands” of CATs/mocks besides the Official ones? have used e-gmat sigma mock
3) If you took any other CATs/mocks, then on what dates (or approximate dates) did you take EACH of those CATs and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)? Have taken mokes for 2 month & score ranging for Q is 50-51 & V 31-35.
4) What Schools are you planning to apply to and what specific application deadlines are you facing? ISB (India) now aiming for R3 (january end)

Hi Ayushbaheti,

I’m sorry that you could not score up to your potential in this attempt. We will surely help you evaluate the ESR, identify the reason for the score drop and help you with an improvement plan.

Since you are an e-GMAT student, we would have a lot of data points about your preparation (strengths, weaknesses and gaps in the prep). So, it’s better to analyze this ESR along with your SIGma-X mock ESRs, Scholaranium data etc. This will give us a complete picture.

Please drop an e-mail to [email protected] (from your e-GMAT account ID) so that your dedicated mentor can start with the analysis.

We look forward to your mail.

By the way, here is an example of a student that can help you ( score dropped from official mocks and then went on to score a 750)

From GMAT 640 to 730 to 750 in less than 2 months
