Hey Hjort,
I am having a b**ch of a time with my Duke essays. I plan on applying for round two so the deadline is coming hard and fast. The question I am having the most trouble with should really be the easiest.
2. How has your personal history and family background influenced your intellectual and personal development? What unique personal qualities or life experiences might distinguish you from other applicants? How will your background, values and non work-related activities enhance the experience of other Duke MBA students and add to the diverse Fuqua culture? Note: The goal of this essay is to get a sense of who you are, rather than what you have accomplished.
Ok the essay seems simple. All I have to do is write aboue my life experiences but I am having a heck of a time relating the various important factors in my life that have influenced me.
I was raised in the US until I was ten after which I moved back to India for a few years and then after that I moved to Japan. These moves occurred during pretty formative years of my life and have affected my cultural perspective significantly (as you would expect). There is also family stuff that has significantly shaped my life and I believe if I do not add that I would be missing a big and what I believe to be a very interesting part of me.
I am having a hard time putting together these two themes without writin a FREAKING novel! Just so that you know that I have tried my best, I have written this essay 7 times in 7 different ways! The deadline for Duke is approaching and I still have to finish my UCLA essays. I would really appreciate some direction if you could before I go crazy!
