Hi Hjort,

I am a a new entrant to GMAT Club.

What books would suggest as useful guides for writing essays for my applications?Could you suggest maybe 2-3 books, in the order of priority and excellence?I am looking to buy only one or at the most 2 books.

To give you my background, I am an Indian corporate lawyer with a little more than 2 years of experience. I have got 750 in GMAT.

I am looking to specialise in Finance.

So, considering all these things, could you suggest 2-3 books for writing essays, from best to worst.

This answer might not be what you are looking for but I generally recommend that applicants avoid looking at essay prep books, at least in the early stages. I have found that applicants often try to conform their essays ideas (intentionally or unintentionally) to what they have read in these books. I honestly believe that the best source of creativity is the student's own wealth of experiences. However, I am not dogmatic about this and many applicants report finding some books helpful including Paul's book and the venerable Montauk.
